Our Mission & Why

Beverly’s Angels provides brand-new essentials to children, seniors, and working families experiencing life’s hardship, while partnering with local law enforcement to strengthen compassionate community connection.

The Whisper That Became Our Why

To love wholeheartedly, to serve with heart, to impact through the quiet power of brand new.

I will never forget two defining moments. First, when these big brown eyes looked up at me and whispered, "I don’t ever remember something being mine first." That sentence shattered my heart in the best way. Because in that instant, I understood something profound: giving brand new isn’t about the item—it’s about identity. From that day forward, we made a promise: everything we give will be brand new. New is our standard. Not just because it's what they need—but because it's what they deserve. We believe every child—every person—deserves the chance to feel worthy, to feel special, to believe they matter. A single pair of pants did that for one little boy. It made him believe that anything was possible. And witnessing that belief take root in real time? It changed my life.

The second moment was in February 2021, when I received a call from Executive Director Michael Overway. He reached out in a moment of urgency: a dilapidated bed was being provided to a senior in a new housing placement. Horrified by the standard of "good enough," Michael sought our help. We responded immediately—delivering a brand new twin bed, frame for independence, cozy bedding, and of course, our signature touch of magic, Benny. What started as one call has evolved into a deep partnership. From my garage to a shared space, and now to a region-wide collaboration, our agencies continue to grow and reject the idea that used goods or substandard housing are acceptable. We believe everyone deserves the best.

This is why we give new—because when love is wrapped in generosity and hope is handed over with open hands, we don’t just give—we transform.

Who We Serve & Why It Matters

How We Choose Our Recipients

At Beverly’s Angels, we are deeply committed to serving the ALICE population—Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed individuals who work incredibly hard yet still struggle to make ends meet.

These are the people who hold our communities together. They are caregivers, bus drivers, teachers' aides, grocery store clerks, home health workers, behind the scenes staff on our beloved 5th Avenue and so many others who provide essential services every single day. They are employed, often in multiple jobs, and yet the high cost of living continues to outpace their income.

For many, this struggle isn’t temporary—it’s their everyday reality. Living paycheck to paycheck, sacrificing basics to stay afloat, and constantly navigating tough choices is simply a part of life. And while they continue to show up for our community, they often go unseen. The cost of living in our area has become unaffordable, yet we rely on the ALICE population to keep our towns running.

Without them, critical services would come to a halt. But more importantly, they are our neighbors, our friends, our family—and they deserve to be seen, supported, and celebrated.

At Beverly’s Angels, we believe in serving those who serve us. Our outreach is intentional and rooted in compassion, designed to make a lasting impact on the lives of those who give so much, yet often receive so little in return.

Why is this important to us?

Because our word of the year—impact—guides everything we do. We’re not here to offer temporary fixes; we’re here to create meaningful, long-term change. When we support the ALICE population with dignity-driven programs and community-centered care, we’re not just helping individuals—we’re strengthening the entire fabric of our community.

The impact is real. The need is urgent. And the time is now.
Together, we can move from survival to support, from invisible to valued, and from struggle to empowerment. Because when ALICE families rise, we all rise.

"I am living, breathing proof that pain can be forged into fierce compassion, wounds into unstoppable kindness, and every scar I wear is a badge of honor—rather than something to hide, they hold the deepest lessons life has to offer."

A smiling woman with blonde hair wearing a blue dress, standing outdoors on a sidewalk with trees and buildings in the background.

Beverly's Angels was born from two very different influences in my life: my father taught me service, and my mother taught me resilience.

My father dedicated his career to public safety and showed me from an early age the power of volunteerism, community, and showing up for people on their hardest days. Long before I founded Beverly's Angels, I watched him serve others with humility and purpose. His example continues to inspire our Hero Kits program, which equips law enforcement officers with tools to build trust, create connection, and become a source of comfort for children experiencing crisis.

My mother's lessons were far more complicated. For much of my life, I saw her through the lens of what she wasn't. Our relationship was often difficult, and there were many things I simply did not understand. It wasn't until I was caring for her later in life, determined to give her the best support possible, that I began to uncover a different story. I learned she had likely spent much of her life battling undiagnosed mental health challenges. In her generation, those struggles were often misunderstood, hidden, or never spoken about at all.

That realization changed everything. For the first time, I stopped seeing my mother for all she wasn't and started seeing her for all she was.

I began to understand the resilience it took for her to make lemonade out of lemons. Long before mental health was openly discussed, long before support systems and resources were readily available, she found a way to keep moving forward. What I once viewed as shortcomings, I began to see as survival. In learning to see her differently, I learned compassion, not only for my mother, but for myself.

The greatest gift of that journey was healing. As I healed, I stopped seeing people through a single lens shaped by my own hurt. I began to understand that every person carries experiences, struggles, and perspectives we may never fully know.

I learned to accept people where they are, not where I wish they would be. That lesson changed the way I move through the world. It changed the way I lead. It changed the way I serve. And it became the foundation of Beverly's Angels.

Even as dementia stole so much, it never took her kindness. Toward the end of her life, when she could no longer remember many names, she called everyone "Angel." After she passed, I found myself reflecting on a simple truth: every person is carrying a story we know nothing about. That belief became Beverly's Angels.

Today, whether we are providing Hero Kits to law enforcement, welcoming a senior home, or ensuring a child receives something brand new that is theirs first, our work is rooted in one simple belief: every person deserves to be seen beyond their circumstances. We are all more than the hardest chapter of our story.

I believe kindness is not weakness. It is courage. It is choosing understanding over judgment. Grace over resentment. Love over what someone appears to be.

What began as a tribute to my parents has become something even greater. It has become a reflection of the values that shaped me: service, resilience, compassion, and the courage to choose love.

Beverly's Angels is the legacy I am creating, one act of kindness, one connection, and one life at a time. My wish is simple: that every person we serve knows they matter, that they are seen, and that they are worthy of being someone's priority. Because choosing love changed my life. Through Beverly's Angels, I pray it changes the lives of others, too.

Why Beverly

In the tapestry of life, some threads are woven with challenges, while others shine with unexpected beauty.

A circular emblem for scouting for a cause, a nonprofit organization, featuring the Scout Guide logo at the top and text around the circumference that reads "The Scout Guide® NAMES VOl. 13 NONPROFIT OF THE YEAR."

The Scout Guide Collaboration: A Community Masterpiece

Collaboration is powerful, but collaboration with heart is life-changing. Through The Scout Guide community, scouted businesses in Naples and Ft. Myers came together and generously transformed our space. As a result of being honored as Nonprofit of the Year, we didn’t just gain recognition—we gained a family of visionaries who believed in our mission. People often tell me, ‘I love the vibe here’ the moment they walk through our doors. That’s because love and generosity are woven into every detail, thanks to this incredible community.
