Kindness is an act that is friendly, generous and/or considerate.
That means we are actively concerned about the well-being of other people as well as ourselves. Yes, it takes EFFORT to be kind (especially when we don't feel like it) but the good news is - it's a ripple effect! How did you feel when someone was nice to you when you were having a bad day? How did it feel when someone was NOT KIND to you when you were having a bad day? Doesn't it feel SO MUCH BETTER to be on the receiving end of kindness instead of unkindness? When people are kind to you, you feel SEEN as a human and that you matter (because you DO MATTER!) and it helps you, in turn, be kind to others. If we have bad days, we can always assume someone else we are coming into contact with may be having a bad day, too. It's important to be kind to everyone so they can experience the uplifting nature of kindness - and that's really how it spreads! Just one small act of kindness a day can make a HUGE difference to someone who really needs it...And we will likely never know who that is. It also makes US feel good to GIVE kindness to other people as much as it feels good to receive kindness. Being kind to others activates brain chemicals that make us feel happier! And who doesn't want to be happier?!? Show kindness today no matter your mood or who you are around and see how your day changes. (Be kind. And pass it on.)
