Shorten your backswing for more power

Shorten your backswing for more power

By Clive Scarff

(This article is followed by golf a year, and a link to this exercise in the video.)

Have you noticed recently that while golf pros turn become More and more, your golf shots are shorter? Tiger has done. Sergio did. Phil is. Why? How players whose livelihood depends on mastering the golf courses long distance shortened renounce your golf swing? Well, are not. Leaving is not the distance.

One of the most important facts to remember when reading or learning golf is that the number one variable, swinging a golf club – which is directly related to the distance – is the club head speed. In my experience in education or the majority of players do not realize this, or the size of the wrongly associated with a swing speed of the clubhead.

It's that simple data speed is equal to the distance from the head of the club – with all things being equal – if my swing is still slow and his big is small, but fast, you get more distance than I will. The premium is shorter than his swing is probably more consistent than my great.

In my writings I talk a lot – and try to explain – the myths of golf. A myth is the supposed need to get the club shaft horizontally across the top of the golf swing. Why Why Golf Club horizontally? Why is this position, the ideal? What scientific thinking on this subject? Because it is parallel to the mother land? What if there is a bit shy horizontally? What if it goes beyond horizontal (John Daly)? How the club to the horizontal is a statement that unfortunately arbitrary maimed more than one player in their efforts there, and away from the main ingredient of the golf swing: the recession. What if someone came and said it did not matter if you have the horizontal club or not? What if someone tells you not have to be a contortionist when running the rise? Hopefully to remove some large loads to play golf?

There is an irony in the fact that most of us try to make a bigger backswing, while to tell our friends to slow down. What if I told you that you could speed up the process? If speed? While many say that even on the PGA Tour changes that are almost as many golf courses as there are different actors, there is an undeniable common denominator between them, and is accelerating.

Every good player accelerates the golf club at impact. Much damage a player makes a big flavor or placed in a position where the acceleration is difficult, or feel out of control are unconsciously braked to get some kind of control by the time they reach impact. In both cases the result does not generally do not produce the distance desired, or the necessary contacts. The slowdown is contrary to the centripetal acceleration, while contributing. Suffice it to say, two changes that were 90 mph at impact not are the same if it speeds up 80-90 on impact, while the other was the slowdown in the impact 100-90. Consider the race car driver (or you based on your habits driving), which slows to a bend in the road, and then accelerates. Then think of an occasion when you go too fast for a curve and had to slow down. Remember to feel the difficulty of maintaining control of the vehicle which met on tour? The golf swing is no different. A deceleration of the golf club residing on its projected path and usually becomes wider. This creates a broad arc, whose fund is now behind the golf ball. Hello fat shot. Even if your club has been going 200 mph before hitting the ground, hitting the ground has been greatly reduced, not to mention all the other negative aspects of hitting the ball large (ground) before the ball (Titleist). The slower response does not.

The answer is accelerating, from a point of view. Interestingly, although much backswing tends to promote deceleration, a short backswing does the opposite. A short backswing promotes acceleration. Its proverbial win-win. Mentally almost do not believe that the short backswing will do, if you accelerate to catch it. Hello good shot. As it was good, you ready to try again. And it works again. The next thing you know, instead of trying to achieve difficult physical positions (such as getting the club to the top of the climb horizontal) acceleration practicing. Imagine practice good thing. Hmmm.

And here's the bonus premium. The practice (always) leads to muscle memory. speed leads to muscle memory. Think whatever you do that requires muscle memory and makes it repeatedly. Whether or tying your tie, or at home call faster now than when you started. I doubt you have mastered the last call home, has begun trying to call home more difficult. I doubt you have mastered from tying knots, which began to link its major tie. I doubt that, since the control of tying shoelaces, which began trying to link more cords. Well I push the point. But I think you get the point.

Believe it or not enjoy AMP is not a luxury we do. They can not afford to waste time their swings. We can waste our time and our game suffers. They get into everything and their daily existence is suffering. Tour players have learned that by shortening their movements and work in excess of speed, which can achieve the same (or more) the distance they were, and the accuracy and consistency gain – two commodities of life in the Tour. Therefore, we have seen and continue to see a growing trend of a smaller backswing golf on the PGA Tour.

Exercise: push right Chignola

The drilling thrust right hand is one of several is found in "Hit Down Drills!" Who is one of the four films in the Hit Down Dammit! "Series on DVD. The purpose of this exercise is to learn from one position to accelerate shortened backswing. It's harder than it looks, but the results are surprising.

Repeatedly swing back to the middle of the club, pause a split second, then use your right hand to "push" the clubhead to the ball. In doing so, you may find that you have created a sufficient speed to the clubhead that tracks the target automatically, leaving him in a final position which the head the pole is oriented toward the goal on his finger, and the tree is almost horizontal (waist) and parallel to the line. This position or less should reflect the up position of his backswing.

As you are more accustomed to this exercise, you create a faster clubhead, the impulse that will lead through This "natural" swings a bit higher than the height of his backswing. It is important that this control is natural – not forced or reduced.
